ABSTRACT
The title of this thesis is “An Analysis of Code Mixing in Andrea Hirata‟s Laskar Pelangi Novel”. The researcher has chosen syntax as the study becausethe purposes of this research are to describe the forms and the functions of the of Code Mixing as found in Laskar Pelangi Novel. The researcher has done the qualitative research and has applied the descriptive method to answer the formulations of the problem.
This research has used the novel of Laskar Pelangi as a data source; The metode padan or identity method with observation as the basic technique and teknik teknik catat or noting as the continuing techniques to gather the data; the metode padan or identity method with teknik determiner tool referent as the basic technique and teknik pilah unsur penentu as the basic technique and teknik hubung banding menyamakan as the continuing technique to analyze the data; and the metode formal dan informal to display the data.
Some of the research findings are stated as follows: First, there are four kinds of word forms found in Laskar Pelangi novel, namely noun, verb, adjective and adverb forms. Second, a noun phrase found in the novel of Laskar Pelangi follows the formula head and modifier, and of structure or known as N1 and N2. Third, the forms of phrasal verb found in the novel are drop out, zoom out, fade out and make up. drop out, zoom out, and fade out have form verb + particle out and make up has form verb+ particle up. Fourth, the kind of compound forms also are found in the novel, are noun compounds and adjective compounds. The patterns of noun compound are; adjective-noun (AN), noun noun (NN). The pattern of adjective-compound found in novel Laskar Pelangi is adjective- adjective (AA). Fifth, there are three English functions of the forms found in Laskar Pelangi novel, namely; Informative language, and Expressive language.
