Peace Fellowship

Peace Fellowships

Are you looking to make a significant impact on the world by promoting tolerance and cooperation? Each year, Rotary funds some of the world’s most dedicated and brightest professionals to study at our Rotary Peace Centers. These fellows are committed to the advancement of peace, and often go on to serve as leaders in national governments, NGOs, the military, law enforcement, and international organizations such as the United Nations and World Bank.

What are Rotary Peace Fellowships?

Each year, Rotary selects individuals from around the world to receive fully funded academic fellowships at one of our peace centers. These fellowships cover tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and all internship/field study expenses. Two types of peace fellowships are available.

Master's degree

We offer master’s degree fellowships at premier universities in fields related to peace and conflict resolution and prevention. Programs last 15–24 months and require a practical internship of 2–3 months during the academic break. Each year we award up to 50 master’s fellowships from these institutions:

Professional development certificate

For those with more extensive experience in peace-related fields, we offer a 3-month program in peace and conflict resolution at in Bangkok, Thailand. This program incorporates 2–3 weeks of field study. We award up to 50 certificates each year.

Is a peace fellowship right for me?

We select fellows from around the world, based on their ability to have a significant, positive impact on the world. To be considered for a peace fellowship, we look for:
  • A strong commitment to international understanding and peace, demonstrated through professional and academic achievements and personal and community service
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (at a minimum) with strong academic achievement
  • Relevant work experience:
    • For master’s degree—3 years paid or unpaid
    • For professional development certificate—5 years and current full-time employment in a mid- to upper-level position
  • Proficiency in English for both fellowship types and in a second language for master’s degree

What are the restrictions?

The following are not eligible for master’s degree fellowships. However, they may apply for the professional development program, but if selected, must pay for all costs associated with the program:
  • Active and honorary Rotarians
  • Employees of a Rotary club, Rotary district, Rotary International, or other Rotary entity
  • Spouses, lineal descendants (children or grandchildren by blood or legal adoption), spouses of lineal descendants, or ancestors (parents or grandparents by blood) of any living person in the categories above
  • Former Rotarians and their relatives as described above (within 36 months of resignation)
Additionally, fellows in the professional development program or participants in Rotary’s former Ambassadorial Scholarships program must wait at least three years before they can apply for the master’s degree fellowship.
Rotary Peace Fellows who have completed the master's degree program may not apply for the professional certificate program.

How can I apply?

To apply for a peace fellowship, , complete the applicant portion, and submit it to a or district for endorsement. The deadline for submitting applications to Rotary International is 1 July, while the deadline for submitting to a local club can vary (generally March–June).

Lund University Global Scholarships

lunduniversityfoundation.org

 At A Glance

  • Over seek 14 million (€1.6 million / US $2.1 million) awarded in scholarship grants in 2013
  • A selective, merit-based scholarship to recognize top academic students from outside the EU/EEA
As a top 100 university and ranked in the top 0.4% of universities in the world, Lund University attracts high achieving students from across the globe. The Lund University Global Scholarship program seeks to recognize these students by awarding academic excellence grants.
Scholarship recipients have a proven record of achieving consistently high grades in their previous studies and are assessed as being a good fit for our programmes. The scholarship is selective, competitive and merit-based.
Scholarship grants may cover 25%, 50%, 75% or up to 100% of the tuition fee. The scholarship percentage awarded depends on budget available to the programme/faculty. It has no reflection on the students' academic level of excellence.  Please note that scholarships are toward tuition fees only and that living costs are not covered. Scholarship recipients must still be able to fund their living costs, as per the requirements of the Swedish Migration Board.

Who is eligible to apply?

To be eligible to apply for a scholarship you must meet all of the following criteria:
  • You must be a citizen of a country from outside the EU/EEA (and Switzerland) and are required to pay a tuition fee
  • You have applied for Bachelor's or Master's level studies for a minimum of one semester of study (30 ECTS)
If you are a current student already studying at Lund University, please refer to information on the scholarships for current students webpage.

Please do not apply if:

  • You do not meet the admission requirements to Lund University
  • You cannot secure the funding needed to cover living costs, as required by the Swedish Migration Board

When and how to apply

The application period for autumn 2014 is now open and the deadline to apply is 20 January 2014.
To apply for a Lund University Global Scholarship, you must first apply for the programme(s) or free-standing course(s) you wish to study at Lund University using the online, national application website, www.universityadmissions.se, during the application time for autumn semester studies.
Please note that by applying for the scholarship, this does not exempt you from paying the application fee to University Admissions in Sweden.

Online application form

As part of this online application, you need to upload your CV and your scholarship "motivation letter" (maximum 500 words).
Please note that the scholarship "motivation letter" is different from any statement of purpose you may be required to submit as part of your programme application documents.  Your scholarship personal "motivation letter" should explain why your academic performance and reasons for applying to Lund University make you an appropriate recipient for a Lund University Global Scholarship.
You can only apply for one scholarship per programme or free-standing course. If you are applying for more than one programme or free-standing course at Lund University, you must make a separate scholarship application for each programme/course to which you have applied.

Selection process

The selection process for scholarships is undertaken in parallel with the programme/course selection process. Priority will be given to students with high academic performance, who are assessed as a good fit for the programme and who demonstrate a strong commitment and desire to study at Lund University.
As the scholarship is merit based only, no consideration is taken of the students' financial needs in the selection process.
