Run for Korea Part 1

There is no one in this world who don't know Korea. It is famous of its culture and exactly the boy band and the girl band. Mostly, korean people are beautiful and handsome which make every people fall in love when see them. But, korea is famous not only from its people but the government really appreciate its people. It is said because there are so many given scholarship for local and international students, like what i did right now, run for catching KGSP scholarship.
It is started when i manage the lecturers trip to korea in purpose university visit. I start to looking for Indonesian students who are already studying in Korea, especially in Busan. I find some people who are ready to give help, in case of suggestion for the right person who can be good translator. Having some conversations with the students, I get interesting point that most of them can study there because of scholarship.
The students said that the deadline is in the mid of April but it is different what is said by Korean embassy that the deadline is in the end of March. Wow,,,, there is some few days left, can I complete it? My job supervisors are already in Korea, who will give recommendation? I think it deeply...After think it wisely, I prefer to ask recommendation from vice dean.
The KGSP application form is not as long as other given scholarship, it is shorter than usual. Applicants only need to fill around 5 - 7 pages and some of them are recommendation page, medical checklist and document check list. There are some documents should be attached, such as undergraduate/graduate certificate, undergraduate/graduate academic transcript,  certificate TOEFL, copy passport, and photos.
After completing the entire form, i decided to send it via post. What a stupid thing i did that i realize after i arrive at home!! There are two types of form and I send the wrong form. What will I do next? Do the Embassy will receive it? See you next time in Run for Korea Part 2...:)

My 1st Flight to Abroad

Thursday, January 24 2013 at 3.50 pm is the day when I go to Jakarta with LA JT 567. As I planned before, I want to go to Adisucipto airport early in the morning because there is culture carnival in Yogyakarta, but because unexpected problems, I have to take taxi and it spends Rp 90.000,- from KH Ahmad Dahlan street to the airport. One hour later, that is 4.50 pm, I arrive in Soekarno Hatta airport, waiting from my next flight to Singapore. Waiting for the next flight, I am looking for my friends, who are the Indonesian participants for MaD event. After taking the shuttle bus from one terminal to the other, I find them, right in the front of perfume shop. There are hikmah, dilla, astri, wahyu and musawir. The first two girls are from Universitas Negeri Solo, the next girl is from Institut Teknologi Bandung, the first guy is from Universitas Gajah Mada, and the last guy is from Universitas Hasanudin.

Thinking that our flight is still few hours to go, we are introducing each other because we don’t know each other before. Kindly of this guy, wahyu offers himself to do check in for the all people. Thanks a lot for you bro..On Friday, January 25 2013 at 10.00 pm, we arrive in Changi international airport of Singapore. There are three gate in Singapore and we arrive in gate 2. Change international airport is so great and it’s different with one in Indonesia. There, people can enjoy facilities, such as tap water, internet access and free trolley. Some people said that using your time because there is no second chance, that’s why we decide to take a walk when we are in the airport. We do sigh seeing to gate 3 without going to the immigration first. We use the sky train to go to the gate 3 and we play hard there, move from one place to another one and as the result, tired attacks.

We sleep in the sofa and the tired kills me so hard. Suddenly, there are group of people come to use and they greet to one of my friends. They ask why you are here, where is your passport, are those your friends, and many other questions that I don’t remember. It shocks me because in the time we have slept soundly; they come and ask us to move. With a half of soul in our body, we move to gate 3. In fact, gate 3 is far and the sky train does not operate it that time, so we should walk from gate 3 to gate 2. Deep in my mind I think, it would be better if I do practice regularly, why because in that time, I have to run from gate 3 to gate 3.

Arriving in gate 3, we have to seek the immigration first. The immigration officer said that there is no flight at that time. What’s going on? It is clear that in the ticket said that the flight is right now!! After talking for a while, they allow us to pass and we get our flight to Hong Kong. Three hours to go, we arrive in Hong Kong airport in terminal 2 and you know, there are so many things different among Indonesia, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Catatan Kecil dari MaD 2013

Permasalahan social, pendidikan dan ekonomi merupakan hal yang paling sering dihadapi masyarakat terutama dari Negara yang sedang berkembang. Dengan adanya permasalahan – permasalah tersebut diperlukannya generasi muda yang akan membuat perubahan dinegaranya masing masing dan oleh karena itulah Make A Different diadakan. Make A Different atau yang sering disebut dengan MaD merupakan acara tahunan yang diadakan di Hong Kong. Dengan empat tema yang ada, yakni kreatifitas, wirausaha, inovasi dan penemuan, aksi untuk membuat perubahan itupun dimulai.

Memasuki tahun keempatnya, MaD dihadiri kurang lebih 1600 peserta dari seluruh dunia dan 20 diantaranya adalah perwakilan dari Indonesia. Aku sebagai salah satu yang terpilih dari Indonesia memutuskan untuk mengambil beberapa acara karena terbatasnya tempat yang tersedia.

1.       Giving with dignity

Tidak semua inovasi memerlukan uang, yang dibutuhkan adalah niat dan kerja keras. Itulah yang dilakukan Anshu Gupta. Beliau merupakan direktur sekaligus penggagas GOONJ yang telah berdiri lebih dari 13 tahun dan memenangkan banyak nobel. Pak Gupta atau yang sering disebut dengan “clothing man” lebih memilih rasa hormat yang pantas (dignity) dari pada kebanggaan (pride). Beliau berhasil menciptakan inovasi – inovasi untuk pembangunan di india, sebagai contoh misalnya menggunakan celana jins bekas untuk dijadikan tempat pensil dan tas yang bernilai ekonomis.

2.       Good life for all

Kegiatan ini merupakan bagian dari kesadaran yang diadakan di lecture room selama 90 menit yakni dari jam 13.00 WIB sampai dengan 15.00 WIB.

3.       The good lab

Kegiatan ini berbeda dari lainnya karena peserta harus mengunjungi tempat ini yang letaknya jauh dari kwai Tsing Theater. Acara ini berlangsung selama 60 menit dari 18.45 WIB sampai dengan 19.45 dan kita dipandu oleh Janis Tong dan Tony Yet. Di Good lab ini, kita ditunjukkan dengan model studio yang ada di hong kong dimana pengunjung dapat melakukan berbagai kegiatan di satu tempat.

4.       Defining problems, finding solution

1.       Rethingking cities

Diawali dengan penjelasan dari Prof. Carlo Ratti yang merupakan bagian dari MIT, Sascha Haselmayer yang merupakan pemilik dari citymart di Barcelona dan Prof. Dehyun Sohn dari Hanyang University Seoul sungguh mengesankan, terlebih mendapatkan bantuan dari moderator yang cantik, seperti Marisa Yiu.

Di sesi ini, kami membahas tentang permasalah populasi yang bertambah dari tahun ke tahun dan bagaimana caranya membuat kota itu lebih nyaman meski penduduknya bertambah dari waktu ke waktu. Dengan mengeksplore penemuan – penemuan dari waktu ke waktu diharapkan dapat menjadikan kota itu lebih baik dari sebelumnya.

2.       Fast cities / slow life

Disesi ini, saya bertemu lagi dengan Prof. Dehyun Sohn. Di sesi ini, kami belajar bahwa ketersediaan tanah semakin sedikit dan telah dialih fungsi menjadi lahan industry dan hal ini memaksa para petani lokal untuk meniggalkan kampong halaman mereka dan menjadi buruh pabrik di kota meski mereka sendiri tidak tahu akan masa depan mereka. Harga bahan pokok pun melambung tinggi dan hal ini pun tidak dapat dihindarkan. Selain Prof Sohn, ada perwakilan dari O Veg Farm yang mengajarkan kita untuk menikamati hasil lading yang mereka bwa dan dalam kesempatan ini adalah jagung. Jagungnya sungguh manis dan ditambah dengan sambal lokal (saya tidak tahu harus menyebutnya apa, tapi itu asem dan rasanya sedikit aneh).

3.       Call to action

Prof. Philip Zimbardo merupakan seorang professor di Stanford University dan presiden di heroic imagination project yang terletak di san fransisco. Dengan didampingi Vincent Wong yang merupakan direktur dari The Good Lab, sesi call to action pun sangat mengagumkan. Sesi call to action ini merupakan salah satu bagian dari sisi awareness dari MaD.

APR itu sendiri apa sih?

APR yang merupakan singkatan dari Architectural Program Report adalah bagian dari dokumen yang harus disiapkan untuk akreditasi internasional KAAB.

Didalam APR itu sendiri, ada sembilan sub pokok bahasan yang harus di jabarkan dan beberapa diantaranya adalah student performance criteria, human resource, financial resource,  degree and curriculum dan masih banyak lagi.

Melalui program hibah kompetensi program studi, Jurusan Arsitektur mencoba menyusun draft APR pada tahun 2013 dan akan disempurnakan pada tahun 2014..

Insya Allah,, mohon dukungannya ya untuk akreditasi internasional ini :)

Seperti terlihat difoto bahwa semua dosen dan staf guyub rukun dalam penyusunan APR ini,,

Rencana baik ini juga mendapat support dari Fakultas dan dibuktikan dengan kehadiran Pak Dekan di acara kali ini :)

Kesigapan staf juga terlihat diacara ini yang dibuktikan dengan keseriusan mereka saat mempelajari materi APR itu sendiri..
